The Board approved the appointment of Mr. David Okamoto as principal of Ethel Dwyer Middle School. With nearly two decades of experience as both a middle and high school educator and administrator, Mr. Okamoto is recognized for his collaborative leadership, student-centered approach, and commitment to academic excellence. He has led successful initiatives in instructional innovation, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and family-school partnerships. Mr. Okamoto began his role this week.

The Board of Education approved the 2024–2025 Proposition 28 Annual Report. Proposition 28, approved by California voters in 2022, provides ongoing funding to support arts and music education in public schools. Huntington Beach City School District’s plans for the year include certificated art staff, short-term arts support employees, elective periods at the middle school, and instructional materials for music and arts programs at all sites. The annual report outlines program types, staffing, students served, and participating school sites. There is no impact to the general fund.
